Romania – Sept 2018
An all-new one-off tour. Think of wild forests and amazingly scenic routes in the rugged Carpathian Mountains. Think of Transylvania (it’s bloody good). Think of an amazing country which can be a bit rough around the edges yet completely modern at the same time. Think of being part of this trip.
An all-new Peak Rider adventure based on last year’s reconnaissance. (See the daily photo albums from Sept 2016 on our Facebook page.) Just as we did you’ll discover a truly fascinating and remarkably beautiful land marked by three distinct historical epochs: old Romania, the post-war communist years and the contemporary European Union era.
We’ll sink our teeth into the legendary region of Transylvania, bordered on the south and east by the Carpathian Mountains. The old military, tourist and forest roads which bisect these wild and towering ranges are seemingly designed for biking and sightseeing. Bordered by classic baroque architecture and communist absurdities you’ll find city squares teeming with music and and the burble of lively conversation. Hotels are clean and accommodating, regional food is scrumptious and there’s a warm welcome at every turn.
On our way to and from Romania we’ll be passing through parts of Hungary and Slovakia, countries with their own distinctive charms.
For 2018 and beyond we’re going to take a slightly different approach to how our tours are marketed. Those who have been with us on tour the past few years know this; we have a very good track record of visiting uniquely fascinating places, the hotels are always well beyond decent and the riding utterly fantastic. We seldom revisit an area, simply because it’s a big world and there are always plenty of places we’re curious to explore.
Partly because we are offering new experiences every year and, also because we are a small organisation, a disproportionate amount of time and energy is required to develop what are in fact bespoke tours. In short, it takes a minimum of 12 people to make a new tour like this feasible.
To secure your place on the September 2018 Romania tour we will require a deposit of £150 per person no later than 15 October 2017. Subject to sufficient numbers we will proceed with detailed planning, otherwise all deposits will be returned at that time. Costs for this tour will not be dissimilar to recently advertised European tours. Deposits are refundable up to the time the itinerary and final pricing is announced at the end of November. Please note that this tour is planned as a one-off and will not be repeated in the foreseeable future.
If you’ve been on a Peak Rider tour in the past few years you already know what to expect. If you haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy one of our trips you’ll find them to be quite special experiences. You can see some of the evidence by reviewing past tours on our Facebook page. We’re also happy to provide references.
